Daniel McEntee
Hi, (SHORT VERSION) Advice on how to calculate force required to pull a steel stake from the ground. I am building a project to extract steel tentage spikes from the ground (1 meter lenght x 30mm diameter) mushroom head. I tried to calculate this myself but got two wildy different results. I don't have access to any equipment that could be used to do this for me, ie. forklift with gauge, crane scale. Please ask if there if any other information needed to do this. Any help would be massively appreciated as it will help with selecting material and size. Thanks!
DrD
Other than the dimensions of the stake, you have almost no information about the problem. You don't say whether the stake is driven into loose sand or into to a crevice in solid rock, just to point out the lack of information. You must narrow the problem before there can be any analysis.
