Kity woodworking machine

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I may be on the wrong show but I'm reaching a point of no return and so desperate for any advice.  The machine I have has a drive belt that keeps slipping to one side, rubbing against the pivot shoulder and  in time frays and breaks.  There does not appear to be any adjustment to align the belt over the pivot or indeed around the pulley wheel.  The belt is driven from the pivot wheel you can see in the first picture.  I'm not expecting an easy answer but there must be a cure for this in some form or other. I should appreciate any advice you may have.

Hi there!

It is difficult to be accurate in reply just from these two images, but it does appear that the fraying belt is far too narrow for the application. This will allow it to "walk" from side to side in the machine when it is running and likely rub against something causing this wear...it appears the large wheel has guide flanges that would prevent the walking were the belt the correct width.

There is another observation....it appears that you are using rigid nylon drive belts...? This appears - in my humble opinion - to be a tad "odd". These straps are very low friction and have no capacity to stretch...both of which properties I would expect to be present in a drive system of this nature.  Try and source some vulcanised rubber drive belts...you may find the results are - well - revolutionary!

Good luck

Bruce
