A new way to find life like ours on another planet

This is an interesting idea but you vastly underestimate the difficulty of discerning a tiny light source when compared to a star or vastly overestimate the ability of creatures to produce anything (light, radio waves, etc.) compared to astronomical objects. Earth is far smaller in proportion than the eye of a needle in a field of haystacks. SiFi is entertaining but not realistic. If the Sun were the size of the Earth, the Earth would be the size of a pin head. If the Earth were the size of a basketball, the bumps would larger than Mt. Everest and the oceans are like a coat of spray paint. Get on Google Earth, hover over NYC or LA or Mexico City or Tokyo or Cairo and go up 50 miles to get a perspective. Still, it's an interesting idea for a good story...
